As recorded from the 2010 census, Sierra Vista had a population of 43,888. It is located in Conchise county. Its climate is very stable with little humidity, making it a comfortable place to live for those who enjoy warm weather. During the months of July and August though, the North American Monsoon has been known to bring torrential rains. Snow is not a common sight in the area, but while it has been known to get a few inches during some years, there are other years, that it does not receive any at all. Parks and Rec
Often nicknamed, “the Hummingbird capital of the United States, residents who are avid bird watchers will enjoy the view near Ramsey Canyon Preserve as well as other local canyons. Along with hummingbirds, other bird species can be viewed around these areas. It is quite a spectacular view for bird lovers of all kind. Some other parks that offer outdoor sightseeing and recreational activities include Parker Canyon Lake, Patagonia Lake State Park and Kartchner Caverns State Park.
The Cove: The Cove is the Sierra Vista Aquatic Center. It has a 11, 347 square foot pool water surface. It offers 25 yard lap lanes for competitive swimming and a wave machine that makes a variety of wave patterns for open swimming. There is also a warm water therapy pool and a children’s lagoon with slide.
Education
There is a public high school, two middle schools and six elementary schools in Sierra Vista. Parents who wish to send their children to private school can also choose from other charter and private school facilities that are also available. Higher education opportunities are available at the University of Arizona South Conchise Community College, the University of Phoenix, Wayland Baptist University and Western International University. Those who are looking to check out books, research materials or find a place to study can also visit the 31,000 square foot library that is located within the city too.
Transportation
Those who wish to use public transportation instead can take advantage of the public mass transit system known as Vista Transit. Two highways, SR 90 and SR 92, connect Sierra Vista with surrounding neighboring communities. Flights also arrive and leave from Sierra Vista Municipal Airport.
Attractions
Kartchner Caverns State Park
Visitors can see some of the most stunning caverns that offer mystery and awe. There are also exhibitions that offer scientific information and why the caverns exist. You can also learn about the bats which habitat the caverns and why the caverns are such an underground phenomenon.
Coronado National Forest
If you are one to get closer to nature, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking, biking, camping and wildlife observation. The Huachuca Mountains border the Sierra Vista area, which make them a beautiful sight to see within the forest area. The Miller Peak Wilderness Area is a popular haven for bird and other wildlife species, which rises 10,000 feet above sea level. There are more than 60 species of reptiles, 14 species of hummingbirds and 78 species of mammals.
