Are you going to be in Sierra Vista this month? If so, you won’t want to miss our Oktoberfest celebration, set to land in Veteran’s Memorial Park on September 12th and 13th. Let’s take a quick look at this iconic local festival and see why Sierra Vista Oktoberfest 2014 is well worth attending.
What is Sierra Vista Oktoberfest?
Sierra Vista Oktoberfest is our own local version of the massive two-week celebration of German culture held in Munich, Germany each year. While we don’t expect millions of attendees like they will receive, Sierra Vista Oktoberfest is a charming event that brings a bit of Germany right into our city.
The event is held over two days at Veterans Memorial Park, found just west of SR 90 between Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and E Fry Blvd. Sierra Vista Oktoberfest kicks off on Friday September 12th at 5:00 pm and runs until 11 pm that evening, featuring musical acts The Hamptons and Sauerkrauten Glockenspielen Oompah-pah Band. The fun continues all day on Saturday September 13th with the festivities running from 11 am through 11 pm. Friday’s musical acts return and are accompanied by the Military Intelligence Corps German Band.
Fun and Entertainment for the Entire Family
Sierra Vista Oktoberfest is a family affair, so be sure to bring the kids. Along with the musical entertainment there will be a children’s carnival where the kids can enjoy playing while you peruse the ‘kunst und handwerk strasse’ or ‘arts and handiwork street’. A number of crafts vendors from around Sierra Vista and the local area will have German-themed wares on display so that you can pick up a souvenir to remember the event by.
Don’t Forget About the Food Vendors – and the Beer
We would be amiss if we didn’t mention the delicious German food and ‘der biergarten’. A number of German cuisine specialists will be serving up traditional foods, including The German Café which wowed last year’s visitors with authentic fare such as Bratwurst, Wurstsalat, Schweinebraten, pretzels and more. For those that would like to enjoy a cold beverage, der biergarten will have German drafts on tap. Fill up your stein and don’t forget to cheers with a hearty “Prost!”
